The Three Types of Work

Shaun Leisegang

Hey there,

Welcome to Issue #003 of ADAverse Insider.

Last month I introduced the Frontier Operating System. This month is about the work that runs through it.

Every organisation runs on three types of work: Robots (Automations), AI Agents and People. Most still behave as if all three belong to people.

A few plain questions will sort almost any task into the right one. Here are this month's Top 3.

Top 3 hot topics

  1. 01

Which type of work is it?

Is the work repetitive and rules-based? That is work for Robots (Automations). Does it need reading, interpreting or recommending before anyone can act? That is work for AI Agents. Does it call for judgement, empathy or accountability? That is work for People. Skip the sorting and you get burnout, bottlenecks and talent used for the wrong things.

The recap works through accounts payable, where the first step is taking the process apart.

Practice on real work builds AI capability

Two businesses can hold the same AI tools and get very different results. The gap is training that changes how people work: hands-on, built around real tasks from each person's own role, and judged by what they are doing three months later.
